California's budget takes away from people who honestly need assistance
59Can these programs be saved
We all know that California is in debt and the future of the state does not look good. There are some state funded programs that are possibly facing elimination in the next few weeks. Those programs are Healthy Families which provides insurance to many low income children in the state of California. CAL-Works is also known as welfare is program that offers assistance to people with children. In California parents with children under the age of 18 are only allowed a time frame of 60 months. Some choose to attend school during that time while others choose to look for work while others choose not to. EOPS is a program that is in all community colleges its purpose to offer assistance like cunseling, tutoring, book scholarships, as well as assistance to other resources.
I know California is in trouble. My suggestion to the powers that be would be to drop immediately all illegals recieving assistance from our programs. Why should someone who is here illegally benefit from programs as if they were citizens? If the would do this in my opinion these programs could be saved.
Dont get me wrong I am not against immigrants, after all I am the great granddaughter of an Irish man, an Italian man, and an englishman who came here for a better life. My great grand fathers came here and worked and took pride in becoming an American citizen. My great grandfathers came here with nothing and became citizens and business owners. My great grandather from Ireland started his own apple brandy label and distillery, my great grandfather from Italy was a jewelry maker. Both men faced discrimination yet it did not discourage them. When they died they were american citizens.
It is also my opinion that those from my generation are looking for the easy way out. California is a very generous state, now everyone is going to suffer if we lose these programs. Teachers arebeing laid off, state employees as well as firemen and policemen are losing their jobs. This is a scary time for all of us in California during this time. I only hope that the powers in Sacramento take into consideration all of California frivilous spending.
